Appropriate Clothing

It is important that clothing worn in the laboratory is suitable for the environment. The sections below highlights the type of clothing that should be worn and those that should be avoided.

Clothes

In the laboratory, you should wear clothing that fully covers your arms and legs.
Shorts, skirts or dresses are not appropriate as they leave skin exposed.

Footwear

Sensible, closed footwear must be worn when in a laboratory environment.
Sandals or open shoes (even with socks) are NOT appropriate.

Long Hair

Long hair should be tied back to avoid contact with open flames or chemical spills.
This also prevents hair becoming entangled in the moving parts of machinery.

Headphones

Headphones or earbuds are not permitted in the laboratory as they
prevent you hearing what is going on around you.
